Coaching for Clarity: Reclaiming Attention Through Single Tasking

Winter has been challenging this year, both personally and professionally. As it comes to an end, I’m feeling a renewed longing for sunshine, warmth, and forward momentum.

Recently, I read a Psychology Today article on “7 Things You Can Do to Thrive in 2026.” Two ideas stood out: practicing single tasking to reclaim your attention and choosing optimism as a daily practice.

In a culture that rewards constant multitasking, single tasking can feel almost radical. Yet focusing on one meaningful task at a time reduces cognitive overload and improves clarity. For those of us who coach, teach, or support others, this matter, attention is one of our most limited resources, and where we place it shapes what grows.

The same is true of optimism. This isn’t about ignoring real challenges or forcing positivity. It’s a disciplined choice to notice possibility alongside difficulty.

As winter gives way to spring, you might experiment gently with both practices. Guard your focus where you can and look for hopeful interpretations when they’re genuinely available. Small, steady shifts in attention and perspective can build real momentum.

This season often feels like a natural reset. What might change if you stepped into it with a bit more intention and a steadier, more grounded optimism? The brighter months ahead offer fresh space for growth, perhaps not through a complete overhaul, but through consistent, small practices that help you move forward with clarity and energy.
