Honoring Women’s Equality Day

August 26th is Women’s Equality Day in the U.S.

This day commemorates the certification of the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote.

It’s significance stretches into the current challenges women face with voting today. For many of us, it’s an opportunity to reflect on how we support gender equity in our coaching practices, workplaces, and lives.

Women still face systemic barriers in leadership, compensation and representation, especially women of color, LGBTG+ women and women with intersecting marginalized identities.

If you’re a coach, you are uniquely positioned to challenge inequity by helping clients build confidence, dismantle internalized limitations, to reach amazing goals.

Celebrating Women’s Equality Day invites us to ask:·

  • Are we creating inclusive spaces that validate diverse experiences of womanhood
  • How can we model equity in how we coach, hire, mentor and lead?

In our work lives and personal lives consider ways you can support women in your life. Support women-owned business, help women register to vote, thank the women in your life, advocate for gender equality in your workplace, and educate yourself and others about the history of the women’s rights movement and ongoing challenges

Let’s continue to hold space for change, one courageous conversation and act at a time. As I learned in my Spanish class: “poco a poco”, little by little, we can uplift women.
