4 Reasons to Work with a Mentor Coach

Guest Blogger, Jo Ann Skinner, PCC, JST Director of Mentoring & Assessment

Mentor Coaching is focused on increasing the mentee’s proficiency in coaching while integrating the ICF Core Competencies.  The mentor coach advises and guides mentees to deepen their learning to become more effective in their role as a coach.

So why should YOU hire a mentor coach? Here are 4 great reasons!

  1. Candidates planning to apply for their ICF ACC credential need a minimum of 10 hours of mentoring.  ACTP and ACTHS programs often include mentoring in their training, but Portfolio candidates must find their own mentor coach.  Check with your training program to determine whether mentoring is included.
  2. ACC credentialed coaches must have 10 hours of mentoring every 3 years in order to renew the ICF credential.  Up to 7 hours may be in a group setting, but 3 hours of 1 on 1 mentoring is required.  The mentoring process takes place over a minimum of 3 months and you may choose your own mentor, based on the criteria set by ICF.
  3. Become a more competent coach.  Drawing on the rich content of the ICF Core Competencies, the mentor and mentee co-create a learning experience that will enhance the mentee’s confidence and mastery of coaching.  It will also provide tools to integrate into the coaching process when supporting clients to meet their goals.
  4. Love of Learning.  The mentoring process supports coaches as they continue to learn, improve upon their skills and study with well-trained, informed mentor coaches.

Are you ready to connect with a mentor coach?  Whether you are looking to apply for your ICF ACC credential, to renew your existing credential, seeking your next level of credential or yearning to broaden your coaching skills, JST Coaching and Training can help.  We offer one-on-one mentoring as well as group mentoring classes.
